Jersey Mike's is about to open in Cheyenne!

Their sign is on the building, the construction of the interior is virtually complete, and the restaurant is just about ready to open, and it's slated to open on February 28th!

A glimpse at the history

There's not too much to say about the space where Jersey Mike's is opening on Prairie Avenue; Lowe's Home Improvement was built in the year 2002 as noted in the Laramie County Property Assessor's GIS map.

Fast forward to December 2021, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers would be actively working on plans to build a location on one of the outlots in front of Lowe's. Freddy's opened to the general public on July 11th, 2023 (video from that day below).

By the time the video embedded above was captured, it was already well known that Jersey Mike's Subs would be coming to Cheyenne; permits had already been submitted to the Cheyenne City Planning website.

According to the history page on Jersey Mike's website, the first Jersey Mike's Subs actually started as another sub shop called Mike's Subs which opened in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. In the 1970s, Jersey Mike's founder, Peter Cancro, bought the Mike's Subs shop. In 1987, Cancro changed the name to Jersey Mike's Subs.

By 2013, Jersey Mike's was already expanding its presence into the Rocky Mountain region. In 2020, Jersey Mike's opened their first Wyoming location in Laramie, Wyoming, located next door to Laramie's Freddy's. Just thirty-nine weeks ago (as of the time of writing), Jersey Mike's shared a post on their Instagram page stating that they had officially expanded to all fifty states in the United States.

Within a few short months after Cheyenne's Freddy's opened, one could see signage in the windows of one of two vacant spaces next door, signage which clearly indicated construction was about to begin. There was also a large dumpster placed just east of the soon-to-be Jersey Mike's.

By mid-December 2023, construction on the interior was already well underway, and Jersey Mike's signage had already been installed onto the building, indicating that, yes, Jersey Mike's was coming.

It appears Jersey Mike's wanted to open in January 2024, but things didn't work out that way, with the opening date being postponed several times. As of last night (February 24th), there was a sign posted in front of the new Jersey Mike's that indicated they would open for their Grand Opening four days later (on February 28th).

A Facebook post in the Cheyenne Community Connections group seems to confirm this date; the Facebook user stated "[Jersey Mike's] open[s] this coming Wednesday (the 28th) at 10 AM. Be on the lookout cause some managers are going throughout the town giving out coupons on Monday." Jersey Mike's website also confirms that the location will open 02/28/2024.

Studying Jersey Mike's social media, one can see that their restaurants (as of recently) tend to open on Wednesdays, and it's likely they'll be mentioning the Cheyenne location the day it opens. (The embedded post below will be swapped if and after Jersey Mike's ends up posting about the Cheyenne, WY location.)

Their menu indicates that they have all kinds of sub-sandwiches ranging from cheese steak sandwiches to submarines to "club subs;" they have three sizes of sub-style sandwiches (mini, regular, or giant).

You can also "get any regular sub as a wrap or in a bowl." For sides and drinks, they have chips (including Lay's and Miss Vickie's), fountain drinks (including Pepsi soft drinks), bottled drinks, cookies, and even brownies.

The new Jersey Mike's is located at 1616 Prairie Avenue in Unit 3, the same building as Freddy's that's just south of Lowe's Home Improvement (and north of Frontier Mall).

Update 02-28: Now open!

To answer a question someone had on one of the Optopolis Facebook posts on this topic, the drive thru functions similarly to any other drive thru. Unlike Subway, you talk to someone through a speaker near the entry of the drive thru then pick up your food at the pickup window.

There are two separate spots inside for employees to make your meal, one for drive-thru orders and one for in-store orders. This is different from other drive-thru restaurants where workers may always make orders for both drive thru and in-store orders in the same area.

Jersey Mike's hours are 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, seven days per week. The store is located in the same building as Freddy's but in Suite 3. The street address of the location is 1616 Prairie Ave.
