Freddy's is almost ready to open; Jersey Mike's is coming too!

Yes, Freddy's is still coming to Cheyenne, and the location is now farther than ever before with signage up on the building! Here's a look at recent events with Cheyenne's Freddy's, and also where things are at right now with a Jersey Mikes Subs in the works!

Freddy's plans Cheyenne location

As mentioned in the previous 2022 article on this topic, there was already word of mouth as soon as Spring 2021 that Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steak Burgers was interested in opening a Cheyenne location, but there wasn't any official confirmation of this information, therefore leaving this information as a rumor--nothing more, nothing less.

Fast-forward to August 2021, plans for a Cheyenne Freddy's were actively in mind with initial Project items being submitted to the Cheyenne City Planning website late that month. The site plans not only confirmed that Freddy's was indeed looking to open in Cheyenne, but also where the location would be.

Located at Frontier North Lot 5, Block 1, the elevation views indicated that the new Freddy's building would use a very similar layout to the Laramie, Wyoming location.

However, unlike the Laramie location, the elevations indicated that there would be enough room for two other possible tenants to occupy the Cheyenne Freddy's building besides Freddy's. Furthermore, the Cheyenne location was planned to be designed to have two drive thru windows so that two drive thru restaurants could open.

Even further, the Laramie location seems to have used some of the frame work of the previous restaurant, whereas the Cheyenne location is being built on a vacant plot of land. If you compare the satellite imagery, you can see for your own self that Laramie's Freddy's is on the same footprint as the older restaurant, J's Steakhouse (also formerly a Village Inn); the Albany County's Property Assessor GIS Map still to this day notes a build date of 1996 (more than two decades prior to Freddy's renovating the space).

Tangible, visible progression begins on Freddy's Cheyenne

In the week of September 11th, 2022, the Cheyenne community was already sharing their acknowledgement on the web that there was something being built at the site of the soon-to-be Cheyenne Freddy's. Redco Construction was already breaking ground on the new location!

As confirmed by photos taken here at Optopolis--by October 20th, 2022, foundational work was already going into place. Not even ten days later (October 29th), one could see wooden and metal frame work in place. By November 8th, most of the wooden framing was built, and by November 22nd, walls were already being installed.

Jumping to February 2023, exterior walls were up with paint work in the beginning stages. At the end of March, the desired colors were beginning to appear on the exterior walls. In early May, signs for Freddy's were being added to the building. By mid-June, one could see from afar that some furnishings were inside.

How long until the Cheyenne Freddy's opens?

The answer to this question at this point in time is rather clear-cut. Someone who appears to be a Cheyenne local previously asked on a recent Freddy's Facebook post when the Cheyenne location is set to open, and the person running the Freddy's Facebook page responded:

"We're hoping to open in mid-July!"

If you stop by the location (at least as of June 27th), you'll see that the Freddy's signs are up on the building; the menu board (except for the various food choices) and the clearance warning bar are both installed as well.

If you are passing by at just the right time and have just the right angle, you'll even be able to see that furniture is virtually ready to go for when the restaurant opens.

Freddy's to open on the 11th! (New info 07/10)

Today, Freddy's held a soft opening mainly open to family and friends, although for part of the day, they allowed the general public to come get free burgers while they tested things out. As seen in a photo taken by a local, a flyer that was sent out confirms this.

The Cheyenne Freddy's Google Maps listing recently popped up, displaying a planned open date of Tuesday, July 11th. However, anybody who knows Google Maps will know that Google Maps often has these details blatantly wrong or inaccurate, typically at the fault of someone incorrectly editing a listing (anyone with a Google account can edit the map; it's note worthy the edit feature is necessary to keep things up to date, but there are bad actors in addition to other cases where people are just being people and therefore making mistakes).

Thankfully, upon asking on the Freddy's Facebook page via a recent post today (Monday, July 10th), there is now confirmation, that yes, Cheyenne's Freddy's plans to open tomorrow, July 11th. Freddy's said in a comment on the post, "We will be open at 10:30 AM." There was also a sign posted today, July 10th stating that they'd be opening in one day.

The other tenants (unchanged from 06/28)

At this point, you are probably asking what other tenants are set to come to the building. For many months since around the time the Freddy's building was beginning to be built, it has been rumored that one of the other tenants would be Jersey Mike's Subs, a submarine sandwich shop that has already opened next to Laramie's Freddy's.

Turns out, now, that plan for a Cheyenne Jersey Mike's is now confirmed. Found in the Cheyenne City Planning website, permits for Jersey Mike's indicate that the new sandwich shop will be taking the eastern most space of the building which is the other drive thru restaurant space. At this time, all the permits are "In Progress."

For the time being, it doesn't appear that the other tenant space has any confirmation of plans for something to open. Freddy's website doesn't yet appear to display the Cheyenne Freddy's location although they do display open job positions on Workstream. Jersey Mike's does display their soon-to-be location on their coming soon page for Wyoming, but it only says, "Scheduled to Open Soon."

Since there still appears to availability for one more business to open in this building, what would you like to see open between Freddy's and Jersey Mike's? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
