Delta Kappa Gamma is holding their 40th annual used book sale on the first two weekends in March! This year, it'll be in the Big Lots. More information and where to donate books can be found below!

A glimpse at DKG and their previous book sales

Delta Kappa Gamma is an organization whose mission is "leading women educators impacting education worldwide." Each year (coming up on 41 years now except 2021 due to the pandemic), the DKG Upsilon Chapter has held a used book sale that raises money for local education programs in Laramie County.

According to a comment by Nicole Kang on Nicole's Facebook post that includes the flier for the 40th Annual used book sale, some of these causes include the "Children's Village, Boys and Girl's Clubs, and thousands of dollars in scholarships to LCCC and UW students in education."

Last year, the book sale was held in several spaces in the Frontier Mall. Also last year, they held the book sale on two different weekends in March instead of just one. The sale used several vacant spaces throughout the mall including All Wild Western/DEB near JoAnn and Natures Touch (the former mini golf place) next to JCPenney.

In 2020 and 2022 (the two annual used book sales prior to 2023), the book sale was held at the former Big Lots in the Cheyenne Plaza, and this is where it will be held again for the 40th annual used book sale.

Where to drop books off

Ideally and as noted on the 2024 flier, they'd like people to drop off books at the sale site, the former Big Lots. You can drop books off daily 9 AM - 1 PM, and Thursdays and Sundays at 9 AM - 4 PM. However, they will still have drop off boxes at several locations including

TopL: Albertsons Pershing | TopR: Albertsons Yellowstone | MiddleL: JAX | MiddleR: Safeway | BottomL: Gold's Gym | BottomR: YMCA - Optopolis

Alternatively, if you have a very large donation and are within a 10-mile radius of the sale site (former Big Lots), or you are unable to get to a collection location, you can call them at one of the phone numbers listed below and set up an appointment. The flier states that you should leave a message, and that "books must be boxed" and "on porch or in garage."

  • 630-2026
  • 630-3682
  • 632-8867

The final day to drop books off is February 26th. Additional information can be found on DKG Upsilon Wyoming's current website.

According to DKG members running the sale, there are over 113,000 books that were put available. This morning at around 7:45 AM, visitors could be seen lining the sidewalk of Cheyenne Plaza from the old Big Lots space clear over to Party America and beyond, waiting for the store to open at 8 AM.

As of early this afternoon (Mar 2nd), many books have already sold out with some spots on the tables left barren of books. More will continue to be sold throughout the weekend and next weekend as well.

Ten-dollar box loads on weekend number two

For the final weekend of the 40th Annual Used Book Sale, you can get a box load (filled to the brim) with books--any and all books. Doesn't matter if they are higher priced or lower priced, everything you can get in a box is ten bucks. There IS an asterisk to this however.

The asterisk is that you must use a box provided by Delta Kappa Gamma. Last Sunday just after closing for the day, DKG members and Boy Scouts were working on getting the boxes set up for the following weekend. They'll be available for the sale on this weekend.
