DKG's 41st Annual Used Book Sale (2025) will take place next door to Frontier Trampoline Park, inside the newly abandoned Big Lots that once housed Hobby Lobby. Donation info and dates are listed further below!

History of the Big Lots/Frontier Trampoline Park

Located in Parkway Plaza (the area just west of Cheyenne Plaza), the newly former Big Lots space most recently made up approximately half of Cheyenne's Hobby Lobby. Prior to Hobby Lobby, two other tenants used the building including BEST and Labelle's, both which were department stores.

Hobby Lobby relocated to the former Kmart on Dell Range Blvd in 2018, and in 2019, the old Lincolnway Hobby Lobby space was subdivided for Frontier Trampoline Park and Big Lots. Big Lots moved from their old location next to Sportsman's Warehouse and into the new Parkway Plaza space.

Unfortunately, Big Lots has been facing struggles recently that resulted in the closure of the Cheyenne store in Parkway Plaza. Not long after Cheyenne's Big Lots closed permanently, all stores were announced to close... but then they weren't closing, pending a sale that fell through... then they all started closing again... It's a mess that Company Man on YouTube recently discussed in depth.

The bottom line is that, right now, all remaining Big Lots are currently anticipated to close including Wyoming's last location in Casper. It's highly unlikely Big Lots will make a comeback anytime soon, unless a miracle happens, one which is similar to Christopher & Banks or Toys R Us (or other similar instances where a comeback happened).

Delta Kappa Gamma announces 41st annual used book sale

Previously, DKG used the older former Big Lots, but this year--in 2025--DKG announced that their 41st Annual Used Book Sale will take place inside of the newer former Big Lots at 3501 East Lincolnway, next door to Frontier Trampoline Park. Their flyer for 2025 indicates that the book sale will take place on the following days and times:

  • Saturday March 1st at 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Sunday, March 2nd at 9 AM to 4 PM
  • Saturday, March 8th at 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Sunday, March 9th at 9 AM to 2 PM
  • In case of inclement weather or other unexpected circumstances, the snow dates listed are March 15th to March 16th.

Although it's not yet clear to Optopolis which food trucks may be present, it is anticipated that food truck(s) may show up for the event this year.

There will be a number of locations (listed below) where people can donate books for the book sale, and donations will be accepted between January 27th to February 23rd.

  • Preferred collection site, former Big Lots at 3501 East Lincolnway. If you choose this location, please drop books off during the following hours: 9 AM to 1 PM on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday; 9 AM to 4 PM on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

You can also drop books off at one of the following drop off locations during normal business hours:

If you have a very large donation (within a 10-mile radius of the Big Lots) or are unable to get to a collection location, you can call for an appointment via one of the following two phone numbers, by leaving a message:

The Upsilon Chapter's current website now displays this new information as well.

DKG's press release indicates that, "Books on CD, DVD's, games, and puzzles are appreciated. Old text books, VHS tapes, condensed books and encyclopedias do not sale. Please recycle them elsewhere."

At the book sale, the first weekend will feature the usual DKG pricing; on the second weekend, customers can buy a provided-on-entry box-full for $10; it can be filled to the brim.

Why did the address change/different Big Lots this year?

Talking about two Big Lots stores, both located on East Lincolnway and across the parking lot from each other, can get quite confusing. The Cheyenne Big Lots originally occupied a space between Dollar Tree and Sportsman's Warehouse (formerly Pic 'N' Save), but that store has been replaced by The Picklr, which previously held a grand opening, as seen in a recent YouTube video from Optopolis.

The newer Big Lots location has presented some unusual twists to the experience of the book sale; many of the fixtures were left behind, including multiple shelving units. Since some of the shelving units aren't easily moved without disassembling them, many of them will be used in addition to tables which will display the books available. Shopping carts left behind are being used to haul books and other large items around the store.

It appears unlikely that Big Lots (which is currently closing their remaining stores) will come back for their fixtures. Some fixtures were sold but never picked up by the person/people who purchased them. Previously, a phone number had been posted on the front door regarding fixture pickup, but clearly, not everyone picked up what had been purchased.

Some of the fixtures seen in this photo had been sold off but never acquired. Given that the newer Big Lots is bigger than the old one, it's unlikely the book sale store floor will encompass the backroom, unlike previous years at the old Big Lots, where the religious section was housed in the back room. - Optopolis

With very few larger-sized spaces available in Cheyenne right now, it was fully anticipated at Optopolis that DKG would likely choose the former Big Lots next to Aaron's and Frontier Trampoline Park. And sure enough, a few months later, this is the case. It's not yet clear to Optopolis if Spirit Halloween may follow suit in 2025, assuming that the space doesn't get a new tenant before summer/fall of 2025.

Do you think the book sale will be filled with books like it was last year? What do you think the main genre of books available will be this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
