Grand Re-Opening of Bourbon Street Candy Co (Moving next door)

Bourbon Street Candy Co before recently closing to relocate next door - Optopolis

Bourbon Street Candy Co is moving next door from its recent space at the Frontier Mall and plans to have a grand re-opening next door on Friday, May 17th, 2024.

A look at Bourbon Street Candy Co's history

Bourbon Street Candy Co has been a tenant at the Frontier Mall for well over two decades. The shop has had a core focus on candy and fudge, although they also have stuffed animals available.

For many years, they were located in space 76 (seen photo'd here), part of what would become a section of Maurice's. It would appear Maurice's expansion initially had the shop planning to close permanently in 2014, but that's not what happened!

The locally-owned candy shop secured a new location closer to the then-Sports Authority (the space previously used by a Chinese massage parlor and, at some point before that, Pretzel Time--according to a 2002 save of the Frontier Mall directory).

Update 05-17 - One of the workers present during the grand reopening shared that the store very briefly occupied the former Subway space ten years ago, just before they opened in the former massage parlor. It's worth mentioning that in recent years, new owners have been running the shop--different from the owner that would have been present a decade ago.

Recently, the space next door to the recent Bourbon Street Candy Co has had something going on... but as to what--that was unbeknown to Optopolis until a visit to the mall one week ago.

Grand re-opening announced

Recently, signs were put up throughout the Frontier Mall advertising that Bourbon Street Candy Co would be having a grand re-opening on May 17th. According to a worker at the candy shop, they are going to reopen in the space next door.

In 2023, space 68 was one of the many spaces used by the Delta Kappa Gamma annual used book sale. Prior to DKG, the space was occupied by Creative Compass Gifts and some other time before that, Union Wireless. As far as is recalled here at Optopolis, Hickory Farms had also used the space for at least one season of Christmas.

At the time of publishing, it's less than 24 hours until the new location for the candy shop opens. It's not clear here at Optopolis as of yet what will come of the recent location of the candy shop.

Old location now closed, to reopen soon.

As of May 14th, workers could be seen moving the furnishings from the old location to the new location. The windows and doorway of the old location have been temporarily shielded off with plastic-looking coverings. Based on a Facebook post of theirs, the store appears to have been closed since at least Monday, May 13th.

A new sign is now on the storefront next door, using a newer design, more similar to the text seen in their logo which can be seen on their social media pages (including Facebook and Instagram) as well as their website.

Update 05-17 - Now open & 25-Year Anniversary in August

The new location is now open and has plenty of candy and fudge to sweeten your day! Early this afternoon, "we have moved" signs were put in the front of Bourbon Street's old location, an arrow pointing to the new direction.

In a visit to the shop during the grand reopening event, Bourbon Street Candy Co clarified that 2024 is the 25th year the shop has been open; in August, they plan to have a celebration of their twenty fifth anniversary.

Although this is a less significant relocation since the new location is next door to their old location, it is still a relocation at the end of the day. Do you think the new space will be able to better serve the candy shop? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
