Scooter's* Bar and Package Liquor, a bar and liquor store located on E Lincolnway here in Cheyenne just announced on their social media that they are set to close later in 2023. And no, Good Friend's Oriental Chinese is not going anywhere; they will continue operating in their space! Keep reading for more info.

Some history of the building

The building that Scooter's Bar and Package Liquor (and Good Friend's) occupies was built in 1973 as noted in the Laramie County Property Assessor. Anybody familiar with Shakey's will immediately recognize the design of the building...

Shakey's Pizza Parlor is a pizza chain that still has restaurants on the west coast of the United States. They once had locations all over the Rocky Mountain area, including at least two others in Wyoming (Evanston, Casper). (The photo below is of a location in Springfield, Illinois.)

Shakey's Pizza was listed in the Cheyenne City Directories for the years 1974-1986. As noted in the 1987 Cheyenne City Directory, Scooter's Scoreboard Bar and Jerrybob's Family Restaurant were present at the location of the former Shakey's. By the time the 1990 Cheyenne City Directory came around, Jerrybob's was no longer listed at the former Shakey's, and Wyoming Off Track Betting was listed.

Cheyenne's 1995 City Directory lists a place called Double Dragon at the location of the former Shakey's in addition to Scooter's and Wyoming Off Track Betting. The directory of 1997 lists Golden Wall at the former Shakey's, but Double Dragon was not listed any longer.

For the last 16+ years, Good Friend's Oriental Chinese Restaurant has been located in the former Shakey's building. In 2016, Scooter's Scoreboard did a remodel as confirmed by permits in the city planning website and two different posts on their Facebook page (this one and this one).

This remodel would include rebranding the storefront to just "Scooter's Bar," and adding the "Liquorland" sign to the front of the building, a sign which, based on permits in the the Cheyenne City Planning Website, appears have some kind of connection to Cloud9 Liquorland.

Scooter's Bar announces sale, Good Friend's will stay.

For a while now, the building Scooter's Bar occupies has been listed as 'for sale' as noted on Loopnet (which now shows the building as "under contract").

Previously, the building was sold to new owners; based on the comments in Scooter's announcement, it appears that the owners of Scooter's Bar were interested in retiring. In the comments of the post shared to a Cheyenne group, one of the owners of Scooter's said that the liquor license was not transferred to the new owners.

Scooter's Bar doesn't have an exact final day planned yet, but they do plan to be open until sometime in December 2023. At this time, it does not appear to be certain what exactly will be taking over the space Scooter's Bar previously occupied, although Scooter's said that it will no longer be a bar.

As confirmed by a post on Good Friend's Facebook page, Good Friend's is not going anywhere. Although the building has been purchased, Good Friend's will be staying in their current location.

Scooter's Bar mentioned in the embedded post seen above that karaoke will continue, and they plan to have a party on December 8th. They will be open in the liquor store for up to two months to liquidate the store. They also just recently shared that they have some "last hurrah" T-shirts available.

*Scooter's Bar and Package Liquor is not to be confused with Scooter's Coffee located on S Greeley Hwy, an otherwise unrelated business that offers coffee and other beverages.

What do you think of Scooter's Bar's plans to close? Since no new business has opened in the space yet (Scooter's will still be open for a little while), what would you like to see happen to the Scooter's portion of the building? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
