JAX Outdoor Gear / JAX Mercantile (former Sears) in Cheyenne Wy
JAX Mercantile Co. is currently setting up to open it's store in Cheyenne Wyoming at the Frontier Mall. This is the first of it's stores in Wyoming, and this is in addition to six Colorado locations and one in Iowa, making Cheyenne's store the eighth location to open.
A little bit of history on this location; Sears opened in this location on October 8, 1980, the year prior to the Frontier Mall opening. Roughly thirty eight years later in January of 2018, Sears closed permanently. In Halloween of the same year, Spirit Halloween opened in the Sears, which would end up being the first video I ever filmed for YouTube, and you can check it out above.
If you haven't seen a JAX store before that's taken over another store, they seem to have a habit of using what is there, but then adding their own touch, which means you still can often tell what was there before looking at the facade. For example, the JAX in Loveland, CO was a Shopko; one of the two Lafayette, CO locations was an ACE Hardware; and the Broomfield, CO location was obviously a Big Kmart. This is actually a nice historical feature, preserving what was there before while also putting it to a new use after previous abandonment.
Currently, according to the JAX Goods website, the Cheyenne location plans to "softly" open its doors before the end of 2019, with the Grand Opening to occur in Spring of 2020.
What do you think of Cheyenne having a JAX store? Do you think it's cool that JAX went into an indoor shopping mall for the first time? Comment down below!

Updated: 11/21/2023 at 6:01 PM - Corrected incorrect info regarding Sears; as confirmed by an article from The Wyoming Eagle published on Oct 8, 1980, Sears opened on October 8th 1980. Changed the ending question from "Will you visit the new JAX Outdoor Store?" to what is currently says. Removed redundant ending on the post that included links to Optopolis Socials. Adjusted layout slightly. Preserved the first/third person used in the article. Changed location to just Cheyenne, WY, added better labels/tagging.
