CHEYENNE - Ridge Road Commons Plaza, a new development which will include a car wash, housing, and at least two other to-be-determined businesses, is being built on the main lot of land that previously belonged to and housed The Supply Sergeant as well as several other businesses.

On a side note, Ridge Road between Charles Street and Cheyenne Street will temporarily close starting on Monday, September 22nd, so vehicular traffic should find an alternate route during the closure.

History and Recent Events

The building that originally housed The Supply Sergeant as well as neighboring buildings all appear to have been built during the 20th century; most of the buildings were built in the 1950s, but the Cheyenne Stitch building was built around 1965, and the original Supply Sergeant building was built around 1920.

However, The Supply Sergeant opened in 1958 according to a Facebook post from the store. Other businesses present on the property throughout the years include but are not limited to Cheyenne Stitch, Cheyenne Stamp Works, Indian Sales Co, Hendrick Sales & Engineering, A A A Fence & Siding Co, Dry Rock, and Miles Mud Pot.

In 2023, it was reported here on Optopolis that, post-fire and post-liquidation of The Supply Sergeant, the land was placed on the market; in 2025, the remaining buildings were all demolished, meaning any new development would have to start with a fresh, vacant plot of land.

Ridge Road Commons Plaza breaks ground

Late one evening in early July 2025, Optopolis observed a temporary construction trailer being parked at the soon-to-be Ridge Road Commons Plaza which encompasses the land along Ridge Road (to the west) and southwest of Luther Place (to the east); and between Charles Street (to the north) and Cheyenne Street (to the south).

The land is anticipated to be split into four lots, and during the first 7 days of August 2025, ground had already broken on the first lot, located at the corner of Cheyenne Street and Ridge Road. Renderings of the lots of land indicate that the sidewalk along Ridge Road, Charles Street, and Cheyenne Street will be separated from Ridge Road, and trees are anticipated to soon line the space between the sidewalk and the asphalt.

Unlike nearby car washes, the soon-to-be Rocky Mountain Car Wash is planned to feature six self-serve manual wash bays and three automatic wash bays in addition to multiple apparent vacuum stations. The main access points for the car wash are set to be provided along Cheyenne Street, but the lot is planned to eventually be tied into the rest of the new development as confirmed by both site plans in the Cheyenne Permits website and renderings of the plaza.

There are currently three operational car washes within a 1-mile radius of Ridge Road Commons, but all of them are automatic car washes which tug your vehicle through a tunnel. The nearest self-service car wash, called Oasis Car Wash, is about a 1.5-mile drive away, located in front of Ashley Furniture. Long ago, there were at least two other car washes along Ridge Road, but both car washes have long-since closed and been repurposed.

According to Coldwell Banker, Lot 2 (located just north of the car wash) is approximately 0.53 acres (~23,000 square feet). Early sample renderings of the lot label the building as a two-level coffee shop, but Coldwell Banker indicates that the building could encompass any quick service restaurant.

Coldwell Banker notes that Lot 3 (corner of Charles Street and Ridge Road) is about 0.96-acres (~41,800 square feet); it could encompass multiple tenants. Early renderings which are still displayed at the site at time of writing indicate desire for a food market and/or home garden business, but based on the description from Coldwell Banker, there appears to be a wide range of opportunities for this building.

Coldwell Banker indicates that Lot 4 (located along Charles Street and east of both lots 2 and 3) measures about 0.97 acres (~42,200 square feet). It is planned to be a multifamily development that could encompass a multilevel apartment complex.

Early renderings of the residential area display two separate 3-level buildings with a neighboring park/hang out area, and just south of the two buildings is an overflow/retention pond.

Recently, Cheyenne Street was temporarily closed for utility work, but the street has since reopened with the exception of the north-edge sidewalk. Starting on Monday, September 22nd, Ridge Road will temporarily close between Charles Street and Cheyenne Street for utility work; drivers are encouraged to find a different route during the closure.

As of September 18th, 2025, Coldwell Banker Commercial / The Property Exchange signs can be seen posted around the lot, including a large For Sale sign near Cheyenne Street. The For Sale sign indicates that James Bowers, CCIM; and Colton Carlson, Realtor are the listing agents for the property; the listed contact phone number is (307) 509-0003. Permits do not yet appear to have been submitted for the coffee shop, multi-tenant building, or the apartment complex, as of the time of writing.

UPDATE SEP 22: According to a S&J Signs worker who was updating the electronic information signs, the closure of Ridge Road south of Charles Street and north of Cheyenne Street will start on Tuesday, September 23rd due to a cancellation. Minutes before 3:30 PM MT, S&J Signs was updating the signs to reflect the latest information.
