Cheba Hut is expanding to Wyoming (former Dog Haus)

Cheba Hut's coming soon sign faces QDOBA at Pershing MarketPlace - Optopolis

Cheba Hut, infamous for their cannabis theme (it's not in the food), is expanding to Cheyenne. This will likely be their first Wyoming location, and it'll replace Cheyenne's Dog Haus at Pershing MarketPlace.

A glimpse at recent events + Cheba Hut history

Dog Haus Biergarten. If by some odd means you don't know the whole Dog Haus story, check out Optopolis' last article discussing the conundrum, or Cap City's deep dive into the mess. Long story short, Dog Haus was built in 2019 and underwent two different franchisees; it closed twice as a partial result of sour events involving each of the two franchisees, respectively. It's now clear that Dog Haus has taken the easy way out with this location instead of looking for some new owners.

Cheba Hut, sometimes stylized as CHÄ“BA HUT. To quote their website's about page, "Cheba Hut is a 'Toasted' sub concept that has been curing munchies since its start in 1998." Further on, they say, "What really sets Cheba Hut apart...can only be experienced in our shops. We combine homegrown food with real people in a relaxed environment." It was founded by Scott Jennings in Tempe, Arizona with the first location opening near ASU.

Although their logos such as the palm tree one and the bird one might be quite suggestive, their food does not contain any marijuana/cannabis/MaryJ whatsoever. This isn't legal advice, but for those hoping the laws changed, one still must go to Colorado (or some other area that allows for such blasphemy) for that kind of thing. However, many locations do offer alcoholic beverages, something that does have some legality in Wyoming.

Cheba Hut has locations in Arizona (obviously), Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin--a total of 18 states. The nearest locations to Cheyenne are in Fort Collins which saw its third location open at the former McAlister's Deli along East Harmony Road about three years ago. They recently opened a new Boulder location and have official plans to expand to Minnesota.

A coming soon sign advertising Cheba Hut's bird logo can already be seen in one of the windows facing QDOBA at Pershing MarketPlace, and a set of corn-hole boards bearing the Cheba Hut name can be seen inside the front door of the former Dog Haus. At the moment, neither the shop locator nor site map list the Cheyenne location just yet; also, it doesn't appear any permits have been submitted for any potential changes at the former Dog Haus.

They have a menu that includes various kinds of eats you can find at this chain. According to their about page, they don't have gluten-free bread, but they say you can turn a 'toasted' sub into a salad--just "be sure to take off the croutons [and] check the sauce to make sure it is GF." Their website notes that subs come in 4-inch, 8-inch, or 12-inch options.

Yes, the restaurant is kid friendly. Yes, they deliver. Yes, they cater. You can call in an order or order online to get take-out. You can bring your whole family, as it is family-friendly. No, you won't get high off Cheba Hut, though stoners are welcome. And, yes, they have a loyalty program. No, Cheba Hut is not related to Pizza Hut which also has a location at Pershing MarketPlace.

The store hours at the Cheyenne Cheba Hut aren't currently known to Optopolis, but other locations typically open around 10 AM and operate until as late as 10 PM, midnight, or even 2 AM at many locations. For comparison, the nearby Firehouse Subs closes at 10 PM, Jimmy John's at 9 PM, and Subway during the ninth hour of the PM. An opening date for Cheyenne's Cheba Hut isn't yet known at Optopolis.

Have you tried Cheba Hut before? What do you think of their subs? Are you excited for a sub shop that may actually be open in the later hours of the evening? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
