Foot of the Rockies moved! OshKosh B'gosh plans Cheyenne location!
Foot of the Rockies' new space - Optopolis |
Surprise! Foot of the Rockies has relocated to a new location. And now, Carters/OshKosh [B'gosh] appears to be working on plans to come to Cheyenne!
A look at the history of the old location
Foot of the Rockies features some history of their store on their Employee Bio page within their website; it states the following:
Foot of the Rockies was established in 1976 by Joe Friel in Fort Collins, Colorado. Rick and Marlene Bishop franchised to the Cheyenne, Wyoming Foot of the Rockies on April 1, 1985 (no fooling).
The Laramie County Property Assessor GIS map lists a "Year Built" date of 1985 which means Foot of the Rockies is likely the original occupant of 1740 Dell Range Blvd Suite D.

The Foot of the Rockies store website continues:
In 1987 Rick and Marlene purchased the Fort Collins store from Joe Friel and went from a single store to a chain of 2. In 2000 they sold the Fort Collins store going back to a single store, in order to focus more on growing their family.
Interestingly, there are two listings on Yelp for the Fort Collins store--one listing has an address linking to the same vicinity as Jim's Wings, and the other listing has an address linking to what is now occupied by Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa next to Fort Collin's Buffalo Wild Wings.
Back to the old Cheyenne store... Any sane person can look inside the space at this moment and realize that, technically, the old Foot of the Rockies space makes up two spaces; there are two entry doors and is clearly a wall that would have acted as a partition between the spaces. Unfortunately here at Optopolis, it's not recalled if an expansion happened post-2000, and there doesn't seem to be anything about an expansion to Foot of the Rockies included in the city planning website.
Foot of the Rockies relocates to Center One Plaza (and a quick glance at that space's history)
Last Saturday (05/27), it was discovered here at Optopolis that Foot of the Rockies had moved to the Center One Plaza, spaces 4 and 5 (space numbers are according to Google Maps, and the property assessor notes a "Year Built" date of 1985). According to a Facebook post from the store dated May 17th, this relocation was very recent; they planned to be closed on the days of Thursday, May 18th and Friday, May 19th in order to finish the move to the new location. (More Foot of the Rockies info will be included deeper in this section.)

This space was most recently occupied by Premier Rental Purchase. Long ago around August 2007, the space was occupied by Rent-A-Center. There doesn't seem to be much about RAC (at least on the web) when it was present in the space.

As for Premier Rental Purchase, a sign once posted on the front door stated the following:
Cheyenne Premier Rental Purchase will be CLOSED Starting Monday March 1st 2021.
The sign also mentioned, "...dealing with ALL our customers the past 9 years..." and, "I (Jesse) will be working from Home to assist ALL our current customers with payments & more!" It concludes with, "Thank You EVERYONE!-Jesse (J&J RENTALS)."

The space sat vacant until Foot of the Rockies moved to the former Premier Rental Purchase. Info posted on Foot of the Rockies' new store front included the following store hours:
- Monday - Friday / 10am - 6 pm
- Saturday / 10am - 5 pm
- Sunday / Noon - 5 pm
There were also advertisements for events such as Rocky Mountain 50K Wyoming Marathon which had a set date of Sunday, May 28th, 2023 as well as the 14th Annual Spring into Green 5K Run/Walk.
Carters/OshKosh [B'gosh] is planning to come to Cheyenne
As soon as February 2023, permits began appearing in the Cheyenne Planning and Development website for Carters/OshKosh, listing Units D and E (the old Foot of the Rockies space).

For those unfamiliar, OshKosh (also commonly referred to as OshKosh B'gosh) is a children's apparel company founded in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Today, it is a subsidiary of Carter's which also lands in a similar part of the market.

According to the OshKosh B'gosh website/locations list, OshKosh has ten locations in Colorado, three in Nebraska, and none in Wyoming. The Carters website locations list lists twelve Colorado stores, four Nebraska stores, and no Wyoming stores. The nearest location to Cheyenne of Carters or OshKosh is the combo store format located along Foothills Parkway in Fort Collins, Colorado; it's so new that the only photo of the space is from Carter's on the Carter's listing, and that photo was uploaded a month ago.

Diving into the nitty gritty of the site plans, most of the interior partition walls of the old Foot of the Rockies space are set to be removed. The old entry doors will also be removed; they are set to be replaced with a single two-door entry closer to the center of units D and E. Carter's signage is planned to be posted where Foot of the Rockies' old sign was; it appears some kind of OshKosh banner is set to be posted in one of the windows (suggesting this location will be more of a combo store format).
Under the Permits section of the Cheyenne Planning and Development website, the Plan Review submitted on 03/20/2023 has been approved; all the other permit items listed for OshKosh appear to be marked as "In Progress."
Carter's/Osh Kosh B'gosh opening soon
There are now new photos that have been posted in the windows of the former Foot of the Rockies space, and the signage includes when the store plans to open: Summer 2023. At this time, the interior appears to be getting the anticipated makeover
