Family Dollar in Wellington, Colorado is now slated to permanently close. Unfortunately and as usual, it appears as though no digital news places have reported about it... at least not till now.
A quick glance at the history
The Family Dollar at 8099 6th St at the corner of Roosevelt Ave in Wellington was built around the first half of 2012, across the street from McDonald's, Taco John's (now Fernandito's), and Taco Bell. It held a Grand Opening in late July 2012 according to Retro 102.5's Kevin Mussman.
Although it's not clear to Optopolis if it has any connection to the impending closure... Last year, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree cut ties; Family Dollar was sold following the previous merger between the two brands.
Wellington Family Dollar will permanently close
When perusing the very northern part of the North Colorado area, it came across as a surprise to Optopolis that Family Dollar in Wellington was closing. Unlike the store in Cheyenne that closed a few years ago, this store's exterior was covered in signs stating that the store was closing.
Signs advertise 20% to 50% off the entire store. Fixtures, furniture, and equipment are also for sale according to some of the signs posted on the store front.
It's not clear to Optopolis when the Wellington store will close; however... From experience here at Optopolis of observing the closing process of stores, both big and small, it's probably a safe bet to guess that the store will be no more long before the end of 2026. Seeing that discounts are still mostly under 50%, however, it'll likely be at least a few weeks (minimum) before closure.
One can only hope that, maybe by the time it's wrapping up it's time open to the public, some other area-journalist or news reporter will pick up on this story and share an update. Besides that... One can pick on a store like Family Dollar all day--at the end of the day, it's a shame Wellington will have one less shopping option.
Update: A Facebook user made a claim that the store may be moving to Fort Collins; when asking the store if they would relocate, a staff member indicated they didn't know yet. Currently, it sounds like the store is expecting to close on September 12th.
