The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is a public facility in Lions Park that features nine acres of perennial and annual landscapes to explore and a year-round vegetable garden, and now, ground has broken on what will soon be the EAT Garden. EAT stands for Education, Agriculture, and Trial; located on the west edge of the botanic gardens land, the EAT Garden, “designed as a living laboratory,” is expected to be a centerpiece for community engagement and hands-on learning. According to the City of Cheyenne website, it will feature Trial Gardens where testing of various plants and food crops can take place, Teaching Beds for hands-on education in essential crop care, Bioswale Bumps designed to manage storm-water runoff from the garden, and Interactive Trellises–a feature which, “offers a literal ‘walk-through’ experience of high-altitude viticulture and vertical gardening.” The new facility is anticipated to wrap up construction later this year and open in Spring 2027. It is being built in the area previously occupied by a fenced-in community garden.
