In late June 2025, Penny’s Diner on Stillwater Avenue had a grill fire that resulted in the temporary closure of the restaurant. For many months following the fire, a notice was taped onto the front door that read, “NEFCO FIRE INVESTIGATIONS.” Earlier in 2026, Optopolis passed by the location and learned that the restaurant was actively in the process of completing repairs in order to reopen for business. In early May, Optopolis received word that the diner finally reopened. Upon speaking to a worker over the phone, Optopolis learned that the restaurant reopened officially around the end of April. The retro-looking diner is open 24/7 once again.
