CHEYENNE / FREDERICK - High Country Harley-Davidson, a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle dealer with locations in Cheyenne, WY and Frederick, CO, announced on Facebook yesterday (July 1st) that they will soon be permanently closing both locations.
A glance at their history...
First, Cheyenne. An exact opening date of the Cheyenne location isn't currently known to Optopolis, but other sources can give an idea. Google Earth Satellite Imagery dated June 22, 1994 and credited to the U.S. Geological Survey shows the parcel of land not yet developed aside from the neighboring gas station which was then-called, "Total," per the 1994 Cheyenne City Directory.
The Laramie County Property Assessor GIS map indicates that the building was built in the year 1995. The name of the lot is called Wide Open Wyoming Real Estate LLC which has a mailing address located in Frederick, Colorado. This company is also listed as the applicant for their Wyoming Business filing, and it went inactive back in April 2025. The Wide Open Wyoming, LLC business filing, however, is still active.
The 1997 Cheyenne City Directory indicates that, at the time, the location was known as Maverick Cycles, not to be confused with the present-day, neighboring gas station called Maverik without a "c." By the time the 2000 Cheyenne City Directory was created, the location was displayed with two names: Maverick Cycles and Lee's Motorcycles, and these names also appeared together again in the 2001 directory.
Google Maps Street View from August 2011 displays branding for Maverick, Honda, and Harley-Davidson on the building, but no visible indication of Lee's Motorcycles. By or before July 2017, the location was rebranded to High Country Harley-Davidson. Update 07-10: A recent video from the High Country's main Facebook page indicates that it was about 14 years ago that High Country entered the Cheyenne market.

In late 2024, it was reported by Cap City News' Stew Dyer that the 47th annual Cheyenne toy run event would be held to collect toys that were to be donated to the Salvation Army to help local families in need. Dyer mentioned that over 400 riders on 241 motorcycles were attracted to the event, and enough was donated that an entire horse trailer was filled with toys. A food drive was later held to collect items to support local veterans at the Cheyenne VA.

Not to be confused with a now-closed and unrelated Harley Davidson located in Maryland; Frederick, Colorado's High Country Harley-Davidson is located on Monarch Street and near Colorado State Highway 52 at Interstate 25.

The building was, according to the Weld County Property Assessor, built in 2001. Google Maps Street View shows the building branded as Harley-Davidson since at least 2007. Bizapedia indicates that the registrant of that location is Wide Open Enterprises, LLC. Update 07-10: A recent video from the High Country's main Facebook page indicates that Longmont's High Country dates back to about 25 years ago.
High Country is closing in Cheyenne, Frederick
Late in the day of July 1st, 2025, High Country Harley-Davidson posted to their Facebook page that, "after 25 incredible years of serving the riding community, High Country Harley-Davidson of both Frederick, CO and Cheyenne, WY will be closing their doors permanently." They indicated that their association with Harley-Davidson is planned to be wound down by the end of July (although the stores won't close until the end of August).
In a visit to the Cheyenne location's vicinity on July 1st made by Optopolis, Harley's could still be seen on display in the show room, though the shop appeared to have already closed for the day. In the text of their Facebook post, High Country indicated that the closure will occur at the end of July, though they didn't include a closing date. It's not clear to Optopolis how the Toy Run will be affected.
Update 07-10: They aren't closed yet, closing after August ends.
At least a couple Cheyenne residents told Optopolis that the dealer had already closed, but their local Facebook page suggests very much otherwise. On July 4th, they specifically said they would be open from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. On Saturday, July 19th, they plan to have a Blowout Customer Appreciation BBQ event from 11 AM to 3 PM, during which visitors can get free BBQ and hang out at the shop.
Today (the day of this update), they also posted that they are holding a Christmas in July event that started on July 1st and will continue through July 31st. It says that H-D Orange Clothing is 20% off for week 1, Jewelry and Wallets are 30% off for week 2, Cleaning Products are 20% off for week 3, Metal Signs are 30% for week 4, and Leather JAckets are 20% off for week 5.
A live video from High Country's main Facebook page confirms that both stores will be open through the month of August, but will be closed beginning September 1st. However, after the end of July, they will no longer be Harley-Davidson dealers as their partnership comes to an end this month.
Update Aug 6th: The store has rebranded
Now that the partnership with Harley Davidson has been wound down, the HD branding has been removed from the majority of the Cheyenne location which is now simply called High Country Motorsports. According to the High Country Motorcycles Facebook page, the Frederick location is simply called, "High Country Motorcycles." The business is anticipated to close at the end of August. As of August 6th, the Cheyenne location's building is on the market. Some products and services are still available, but supplies are limited. Sales and Closeouts are also officially happening at both locations.
