Cheyenne IHOP abruptly closes! (IHOP exits Wyoming)

CHEYENNE - Cheyenne's International House of Pancakes location, commonly referred to as IHOP, was closed permanently as of April 20th, 2025, leaving the State of Wyoming with no more IHOP locations.

A look at the history

The Laramie County Property Assessor indicates that Cheyenne's IHOP building was built in the year 2000. It took what was previously-vacant land just south of Sam's Club's parking lot and just west of Cheyenne Fire Rescue, Cole Station 5 (also now vacant). At this time, an exact opening date isn't clear to Optopolis, but a sign at the Cheyenne IHOP suggests that the restaurant opened by or before 2001.

Besides some visual changes over the years including updated signage on the exterior of the location, the IHOP building has largely remained about the same throughout the years. Their hours were reduced in recent times, however, closing as soon as 3 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays as verified by archives of their website.

IHOP Cheyenne closes suddenly

In late April 2025, signs seen at the entry of the Cheyenne IHOP state that the restaurant is permanently closed as of April 20, 2025. It thanks patrons for their business over the last 24 years. This closure leaves Wyoming with no more IHOP locations.

At the time of a visit made by Optopolis in late April of 2025 and after the closure, the IHOP building was mostly untouched. Tables and chairs were still inside, although it appeared that some things were being packed up in boxes, as various boxes of materials were scattered around the dining room floor. (See video embedded below.)

Some IHOP locations in other cities near Cheyenne have been closing down in recent years. Back in 2021, the Evansville-Casper-area IHOP also closed (now occupied by Chili's), and Fort Collins lost one of their IHOP locations in 2018.

During the first few days after the closure, IHOP's website did still display the remaining Wyoming location, but now, references to the Cheyenne IHOP appear to have been removed from the store locator and directory. Attempts to visit the Cheyenne location's individual webpage or the Wyoming locations page both instantly redirect visitors to the main locator page.

The signage has been taken down

Since the initial discovery of this closure here at Optopolis, the signage for IHOP has mostly been taken down. The blue-colored canvas canopies above the windows have been stripped to just the canopy frames, and the light-up IHOP signs on the exterior of the building are no longer present. The self-standing sign in front of IHOP has also been stripped of the canvas signage, leaving a signless sign frame.

It's unclear what implications, if any, this closure may have on other IHOP locations. Dine Brands Global's Applebee's (which also has a Cheyenne location) is still open and operational.
