Pizza Hut on Yellowstone Road is currently in the process of remodeling the store! For the time being, the dining room is closed although to-go is still an option! Here's a glance at its history and what is expected to change.

Historical glimpse

The property assessor notes that the Pizza Hut building was built in the year 1977 with a couple small add-ons to the building, one in the year 2000, the other in 2001. Pizza Hut likely was the original tenant at this location, seeing that the building still sports the "hut" roof and also checking inside an old FE Warren Airforce Base Guide book from 1985.

Back when the nearby Stag Convenience Corner was about to be demolished for Chase Bank, planning items were discovered by Optopolis in the Cheyenne City Planning website that indicated previous plans to renovate the Stag building for the "Yellowstone Pizza Hut."

Considering the close proximity (at less than 0.5 miles away) to the existing Pizza Hut location, it's likely this would have been a relocation, but the plans never were fulfilled. Now, Chase Bank operates at the site of the old Stag Convenience Corner while the Yellowstone Rd Pizza Hut still operates at their 5320 Yellowstone Rd location.

Back in 2011, a fairly minor but noticeable change happened when the classic large-font letters on the hut and the sign faces of the standalone sign were replaced with more modern signage (based on permit items in the Cheyenne City Planning website). Something noteworthy of this location is that it is one of the few Pizza Huts that, as of recently, offer not only dine-in options but also a buffet.

Remodel underway

Around the start of November 2023, signs posted in the windows of this Pizza Hut location were discovered by Optopolis; the signs indicated plans for remodeling the building. The signs stated that the location would be closed for dine-in starting on November 6th, but would continue serving food via delivery and curbside pickup.

This means that, as of the time of writing, the restaurant has already closed the dine-in option for the duration of the remodel. It's not clear at this time exactly how long the dining room will be closed nor what all about the dining room will be changing. However, there are permits in the Cheyenne City planning website that indicate another sign change coming.

The plans indicate that the standalone sign and building sign will be changed out with the modern version of the retro logo that uses a similar font with the hut logo. At the time of writing, both the sign and electrical permits for this change are still displayed as "in progress."

This all comes after Arby's next door just started remodeling their location.

With this remodel, do you think the Yellowstone Rd Pizza Hut will keep the buffet or shift to a more traditional dine-in experience? Do you think other Pizza Hut locations should still offer the option of dine in/buffet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
