Pizza Hut on South Greeley Highway is anticipated to close sometime after the 2026 Super Bowl in part due to their lease expiring at the end of March.

A glance at the history

This Pizza Hut used to be located on East Lincolnway next door to Poor Richard's (today, Human Bean stands in its place). On December 24th, 2009, the old location closed; then on December 26th, the new South Greeley Hwy location opened according to Wyoming Tribune Eagle. As a result of this move, then-owner, "Mike O'Donnel said the site swap allows him to reach more customers," and he was able to also expand the menu. The new South Greeley location even expanded to include the WingStreet concept.

At the time in 2009, this wasn't the only change coming to the Cheyenne Pizza Huts.

  • The Pizza Hut Express on Dell Range Blvd across from McDonald's (since-demolished, now Taco John's) moved to US-30 near Loaf n Jug (present-day Pour Decisions Bar and Grill), and the US-30 Pizza Hut later moved to Pershing MarketPlace near DazBog Coffee (still open today).
  • The Pizza Hut on Yellowstone Road was set to also receive the WingStreet concept. WingStreet is still advertised today at that location.

The building in which the South Greeley Pizza Hut opened was built in approximately 2008 according to the County Property Assessor. The new building and parking lot replaced an older building that most recently housed City National Pawn.

The new building provided space to have, potentially, three small storefronts instead of just City National Pawn. City National Pawn still has two locations which Optopolis knows of, the other being on Dell Range Boulevard.

Pizza Hut set to close

In early January, Optopolis heard some of the first murmurs that Pizza Hut on South Greeley Highway may be looking to close. Standby News contacted the store on January 10th, and the individual on the other side of the line indicated that the store will be closing sometime after the 2026 Super Bowl (which is in early February).

The exact closure date isn't currently known, but it is anticipated to occur by or before March 31, 2026, the day which their lease expires according to LoopNet. In contrast to what LoopNet states, the restaurant is still operational as of early January 2026.

However, LoopNet indicates that, "The property will be delivered with key restaurant infrastructure in place including a cooler, freezer, and hood system which will remain on-site." It also indicates that the landlord wants a 3-year lease term (minimum) for the new tenant.

In a pass by the area on January 11th, the restaurant was still functioning. Optopolis observed a for-lease sign in front of Pizza Hut and facing South Greeley Highway; the listing team includes James Bowers and Colton Carlson with Coldwell Banker Commercial, and it provides the phone number, (307) 509-0003. The future of the soon-to-be former Pizza Hut space is not certain to Optopolis.
