Decker Glass replacing Buck's Auto Repair

Decker Glass, a glass and window company servicing the Wyoming area, has been in the process of opening a physical location in Cheyenne, and it appears it'll be opening soon at the former Buck's Auto Repair!

History of the Buck's Auto Repair building

With only a glance at the old Buck's building, anyone can immediately tell it used to be a gas station, and this is 100% true. The Laramie County Property Assessor notes that the building was built in approximately 1959 with two "prefabricated storage sheds" built in 2000.

Cheyenne City Directories throughout the years reveal some very interesting information about the location. In 1961, Persons Super Serv (a gas station) was noted as present in the building. Persons Super Serv would be listed at the location until the late 60s when the station became the E Lincolnway Conoco (or as later noted, Bob's Conoco).

In the early 80s, The Place Inc (another gas station) was listed at 2016 E Lincolnway, but by 1987, the station was listed as vacant. By 1990, yet another business took over called Western Wheels, an auto detail business. That was short lived though, the station going vacant again by 1991. By 1993, Buck's Auto Repair opened at the former gas station, a business which had the infamous old Dodge pickup truck parked out front for years.

Pinpointing when Buck's Auto Repair closed is a harder thing to do. In June 2023, a Facebook user posted to one of the local Cheyenne Facebook groups that Buck's had closed. When passing by the location after that Facebook post, it was discovered here at Optopolis that the place was starting to be cleaned up.

Speaking to the two people tidying the place up revealed that "Buck" had passed away; this appears to be true based on a page on an estate sales website. Google Maps Street View imagery from October 2022 reveals some activity still occurring at Buck's, with many vehicles still present in the lot.

Decker Glass begins setting up Cheyenne location

By November 2023, the building was mostly cleaned up and the parking lot had been repaved. Sometime over the following month or so, the building would be repainted and new signage would be placed throughout the property--all of which could be seen on December 15th.

The Cheyenne location is already listed on Decker's website. The Cheyenne City Planning website displays permits for some roofing work as well as "curbstop repair."

Although the Cheyenne location didn't appear to be furnished/open yet as of January 1, 2024, the locations page on Decker's website shows the same hours for the Cheyenne location as the other three locations.

  • Open 8 AM to 5 PM on Monday - Friday
  • Closed on Saturday, Sunday
