Where Spirit Halloween will be in Cheyenne in 2022

It's that time of the year again, and Halloween 2022 is coming up! Spirit Halloween will be opening a Cheyenne location once again this year. Here's where it will be located (and more).

Some history and a look at the 2022 Spirit location

Spirit Halloween

The origins of Spirit Halloween date back to as soon as 1983, the year it was founded according to Business Insider. For many, many years now, they've been opening at various locations throughout the capitol city for the duration of the Halloween seasons. For instance, in

  • 2011, Spirit Halloween took over Cheyenne's former Hollywood Video,
  • 2017, the Halloween store occupied the former Sports Authority at the Frontier Mall,
  • 2018, Spirit occupied Cheyenne's former Sears at the Frontier Mall,
  • 2019 and 2020, Spirit occupied Cheyenne's third Kmart location at Dell Range Blvd, and
  • 2021, Spirit Occupied Cheyenne's former Big Lots, which moved to the nearby former Hobby Lobby.

The former Big Lots space

It would appear that Spirit Halloween is opening at the former Big Lots space once again this year. Perhaps this is no surprise; there are plans submitted for a new Burlington at the Kmart space. In addition, Hollywood Video, Sports Authority, and Sears have already long since been replaced by other occupants.

The history of the old space Big Lots once occupied has become a bit murky since the last article mentioning the space, as new information has been discovered; however, it is known here at Optopolis that Big Lots was in the space since at least the early 2000s.

In 2019, Big Lots Cheyenne began the process of renovating the former Hobby Lobby* space for a modernized store floor. Big Lots would open in the new space on September 26th, 2019.

Spirit Halloween opening date

Perhaps the biggest question of all is, "When will Spirit Halloween open the Cheyenne store?" The short answer is that it is hard to say (as of yet).

Update Aug 22 - the store has since opened; it opened for the first time this year on Wednesday, Aug 17th.

In previous years (2019-2021), Cheyenne's Spirit didn't open immediately at the turn of August, and it didn't this year either. Although signage went up over four weeks ago (could be seen on the building as soon as July 7th), there is no indication on the Spirit Halloween webpage for Cheyenne (yet) for when the store will open.

In the meantime, the flagship location in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey announced it would have its grand opening on July 30th; that store is open now as confirmed by many videos on YouTube, including but not limited to a YouTube video posted by That Nate Guy.

According to the store locater, nearest locations to Cheyenne will soon include Fort Collins at the former Pier 1 on College Ave, Loveland near Sportsman's warehouse along Hwy 34, Greeley at both the former Office Max on W 29th St and the former Team Tom Gym at the Greeley Mall, and Longmont at the former Fitness 19 on Main St. At this time, only one other Wyoming store is listed; it will be at the former Macy's anchor in the Eastridge Mall in Casper, Wyoming.

Dutch Bros Coffee is coming to Cheyenne (for real)

Old Chicago closes Cheyenne restaurant!

Cheyenne's Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom permanently closed yesterday evening, at least an hour before their normal closing time of 10 PM on Sundays. They brag about their "tavern thin and classic thick crust pizzas" and their "110 local and legendary beers."
